Homemade Clay
Use the following recipes to make homemade clay that can be rolled or shaped into sculptures. Some clays should be dried overnight while others should be baked in the oven. When hard they can be decorated with paint.
Modelling Clay
Ingredients
2 cups salt
2/3 cup water
1 cup cornstarch
½ cup cold water
Stir the starch and 2/3 cup water in a saucepan over heat for 4-5 minutes. Remove the mixture from the heat. Blend in the cornstarch and cold water until the mixture is smooth. Return it to the heat and cook until thick. Let the clay cool then shape it.
Bakers Clay
Ingredients
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 teaspoon alum
1 1/2 cups water
Food colouring
Mix the flour, salt, alum and water in a large bowl. If the clay is too dry knead in another teaspoon of water. Divide it and knead in different colours of food colouring.
When sculpted you can bake at in an oven at 250F for about an hour and a half.
